Beyer-Garratt & Australian Standard Garratt

QR Australian Standard Garratt (ASG) G51 in Clyde Engineering Erecting Shop: late May or early June 1944

NSWTD original: ARHSQ Collection

Thanks to Melanie Dennis (Australian Steam Group) for the updated information. She also comments of the photo "The photo was taken by the NSWTD (CME Testing Lab: No.5626)and the location is Clyde Engineering's Erecting Shop.  Another clue is the tender visible to the left of the garratt:  this is a '38' class tender, probably that of 3805 which finally entered service in April 1945

Close inspection of a photocopy of the original print shows the loco number to be G51.  As
G51 entered QR service during July 1944, this would date the photograph as being early-mid 1944.  The loco is in the final stages of erection: there are still some parts to be fitted and the boiler unit/cab have yet to be painted black.  Thus, I'd estimate the photo to have been taken in
late May or early June 1944. "
