On a cool June morning a fire was lit in the firebox of 720 to prepare it for steaming.

After a number of hours a good head of steam had been created, and with 1179 attached 720 moved under its own power for the first time in 39 years! After starting life as a park locomotive, this engine has come a long way in 13 years.

The Sounds of Steam return to Queensland!

No, it's not C17 720 at Rosewood Railway, or the recently returned to service C17 974. Instead, it's over 200 recordings of steam locomotives working during the last years of steam in Queensland, from 1966 to 1969.

These recordings have been in the safe hands of the Victorian division for the last 40 or so years, and for the most part the recordings have not been heard by many.

Now the tapes have come to Queensland to be digitised before they degrade and the historic recordings are lost.
See the audio page in the gallery for more information. If you'd like to own a CD with new, unheard recordings, or would simply like a new digital copy of your current LPs (CDs remastered from the original master tapes), contact the webmaster.

1566 has complete refit

CLV 1566 is nearing the end of its complete overhaul, which includes some remodeling of the interior in an attempt to bring the vehicle closer to its original layout.  This car needed large amounts of new woodwork, the old wood being totally rotten or damaged.  (Photos : J. Cash)

UPDATE (12/6/05):

Owen Betts is working on the windows of CLV1566. Six new windows are required and a number need repairs

Sleeper maintenance continues

As with any railway, the Rosewood Railways "right-of-way" needs continual attention to keep the line in a serviceable condition.  Anyone who would like to assist on the railway but is unsure of "what they can offer", the rail maintenance gang is the best way to start - any assistance is always appreciated!
