Driver for a Day - Steam

E-mail Print PDF

Come and Drive a Steam Locomotive for a Day

A once in a life time opportunity (or perhaps if you enjoyed the day ... there could be more) to learn the ins-and-outs of driving a steam locomotive. Our recently restored C17 720 will be your iron horse for the day. You will be tutored by one of our experienced volunteers who will take you through the initial safety briefing, and then on to learning about the locomotive itself.

You will be shown how to fire a steam locomotive, how to keep an eye on water and steam pressure, how to setup the locomotive to move forward or in reverse, use the regulator to start the locomotive moving, and use of the Westinghouse braking system. You will also receive a run down on basic safeworking principles to provide a working knowledge of the Rosewood Railway Museum's signalling and staff working.

At the end of the day, you'll be guaranteed to come away with a great big smile and also a commemorative certificate. This is the perfect gift for the budding enthusiast, or even if you want to get hubby out of the house for a day.

With hand on the Regulator, a Driver for a Day slowly moves C17 720 over the points at Cabanda

C17 720 is now past the points and the Driver for a Day applies the brakes to slow to a stop.
