Come and Drive a Diesel for a Day – as seen on Channel 9's 'Getaway!'
There is nothing like having a few hundred horsepower at your fingertips, be it a suped up V8 and Ferrari or …. ah who are we kidding? Come and see some real power. DH38 has worked all over Queensland hauling thousands of tonnes of freight on lightly laid branchlines and the main lines over the last 4 decades. Why not learn how to drive one these ground breaking machines?
You will be briefed by one of our experienced volunteers on the safety of the railway and then go onto learning about the locomotive itself. You will be shown how each of the Diesels work, noting that they both use different methods of apply the power from the engine to the wheels. Then onto the fun stuff learning the controls of the locomotive. Including how to setup the locomotive to move forwards or in reverse, how to apply the throttle and how to apply the brakes (noting Diesel's have 3 braking systems).
At the end of the day, we guarantee after hearing the big Caterpillar diesel in DH38 you will leave with a mighty great smile on your face and also a commemorative certificate acknowledging you are a Driver for a Day. This is the perfect gift for the person who loves horsepower, or you'd just like to get hubby out of the house for a day.
